L.K.S. Goes Litterless
In a greater effort to reduce waste we will be asking students to participate in a complete "waste-free" lunch program effective Fri. Sept 10th, 2008. All waste generated will need to be taken home in your child's lunch bag. We hope that students will make a greater effort to pack a litterless lunch by using plastic reusable containers. By introducing litterless or waste-free lunches students can help do their part in reducing the amount of garbage produced and fulfill one of our initiatives this year! Thank-you for participating!

Hi Ms Perry and the Eco -Warriors,
Congratulations on everything that you're doing to control litter in the school and in becoming an eco-school. Recently I noticed a large garbage problem in our park and the area surrounding the school. The garbage had not been picked for quite awhile and it was overflowing from the bins surrounding the shale pit , the baseball diamond and near the pool. It looked awful, smelled and was obviously attracting insects and rodents. The litter was also all over the grass and in the sand area. Callum (LKS grd 2)and I went and took pictures of the bins and sent a letter to our city Councillor Peter Milzcyn about our problem and concerns. Within 24 hours his office had responded . The entire park was picked up , garbage was gone, the bins were empty. They said that they have requested more frequent garbage pick up for our park and more garbage cans, especially near the sand play area. I suggested that the cans have lids. Callum and I were very excited to see the support of our city representative and the quick action of the city workers. My concern is that we as a community need to do our part . We must make our own personal effort to keep our beautiful parks and streets free of litter and garbage not only for the environment but for public health. If some how the Eco-Warriors could extend their message to beyond looking after litter in the school area to also the surrounding community I think we could then keep our parks ect...free of litter. The students who eat in the park could set an example for the little kids in the park and their caregivers by putting litter in it's place ... in the garbage cans !
Care for our school and community in which we live .
Thanks
Dawn Emmerson (Mackay)
